PM Modi:
Mulayam’s demise big loss for country; he kept blessing me
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes
to Mulayam Singh Yadav on
Monday, saying the deceased Samajwadi Party founder had been so
large-hearted that “until he stayed alive, he kept blessing me”.
“While I was coming here, I got the sad news that Mulayam Singh Yadav
has passed away… His demise is a big loss for the country. I have a very
special bond with Mulayam Singh.. When we used to meet as Chief Ministers — he
and I— we felt a sense of belonging,” the prime minister said at Amod in Gujarat’s
Bharuch district, where he laid the foundation for several development
projects.
Finance Minister Sitharaman to attend IMF, World Bank annual meetings in
US
Finance Minister
Nirmala Sitharaman will attend the annual meetings of IMF and World Bank during
her six-day visit to US, starting October 11. She will also attend the meetings
of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors. The minister would also
meet US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and World Bank President David Malpass
separately.
Shiv Sena Uddhav faction gets new name, 'flaming torch' election symbol
The Election
Commission (EC) has allotted the name 'Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)'
and the 'flaming torch' symbol to former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's
faction for the Andheri East bypoll. The Eknath Shinde-led faction, which will
fight the election under the name 'Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena', has been asked to
submit a new list of symbols by 10 am on Tuesday.
Indian Navy's 1st Training Squadron arrives at Dubai's Port Rashid
Three ships of the
Indian Navy's 1st Training Squadron (1TS) entered Dubai's Port Rashid on Monday
as part of a long-range training deployment. INS Tir, INS Sujata and Coast
Guard Ship Sarathi were received by India's Defence Attache and UAE Navy
officials. "The deployment...is aimed at exposing...trainees to...conduct
of various evolutions at sea and port familiarization," Defence Ministry
said.
Centre launches 24x7 tele-mental health service 'Tele-MANAS' in 20
states, UTs
The Union Health
Ministry on Monday launched a 24x7 tele-mental health service called Tele
Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States (Tele-MANAS) on the
occasion of World Mental Health Day. The service will begin in 20 states and
UTs and will subsequently be expanded across the country. The service can be
accessed by calling helpline numbers 14416 and 1-800-891-4416.
NRI doctor donates
her entire ₹20-crore wealth to Andhra government hospital
A US-based Andhra
Pradesh native doctor has donated her entire wealth of ₹20 crore to a
government hospital in her hometown of Guntur, reports said. Immunologist and
allergy specialist Dr Uma Devi Gavini, who studied at Guntur Medical College in
1965, made the donation to Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) recently.
IREDA celebrates "Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas"
To create cybersecurity awareness among all employees, Indian Renewable Energy
Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) observed the "Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas".
On this occasion, Shri Alok Kumar, Information Security Consultant, AKS IT
Services, shared his insights with IREDA employees on the practice of cyber
hygiene. Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas is an
initiative launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs that requires all
government organizations to spread cybersecurity awareness. It is observed on
first Wednesday of every month. The purpose is to create awareness and
sensitize the Internet users on safeguarding against cyber frauds and
cybercrimes.
Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel inaugurates Chhattisgarh Olympic
Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has inaugurated the state’s own
Olympics. The aim is to provide a centerstage to the village level sports so
that a feeling of pride for the culture is inculcated. Secondly, to channelise the energy of the
local youths which is very important for our society, Baghel inaugurated the
grand multi-sport event at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur,
claiming to revive the age-old-tradition of traditional games namely ‘langdi’,
‘bhaura’, ‘bati’ (kancha), and ‘pitthul’.
The event will continue till January 6, 2023 and as many as 14 types of
traditional sports have been included in the team and individual categories of
separate age groups.

Armed confrontation is not an option: Taiwanese Prez to China
Taiwanese President
Tsai Ing-wen on Monday said that she wants to "make it clear" to
authorities in China that "armed confrontation is absolutely not an
option". She also said that it's "regrettable" that China has
escalated military tensions and threatened the peace and stability in the
Taiwan Strait and the region. Ing-wen made the remarks during her National Day
address.
Taiwan's 'insistence on independence' root cause of tensions: China
The root cause of
tensions in the Taiwan Strait is the Taiwanese government's "insistence
on...independence", the Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday, adding
that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory. The remark came as a
response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's speech where she said that a war
between Taiwan and China is "absolutely not an option".

Rivian recalls nearly all its EVs; its shares fall 9%
Amazon-backed
EV-maker Rivian on Friday recalled nearly all its 13,000 vehicles due to a
possible loose fastener that could cause the driver to lose steering control.
Following the recall, which sparked concerns that the EV-maker may not meet its
2023 production target, Rivian's shares fell about 9% on Monday. Rivian had cut
its 2022 production target by half in March.
US recession likely in 6 to 9 months from now: JPMorgan CEO
America's largest
bank JPMorgan Chase's CEO Jamie Dimon on Monday said that the US could tip into
a recession in six to nine months from now. He cited runaway inflation, big
interest rate hikes and the Russian invasion of Ukraine as the indicators of a
potential recession. He also cited the unknown effects of the US Fed's
quantitative easing policy.
'Unacceptable escalation': UN chief on Russian strikes across Ukraine
UN chief Antonio
Guterres has condemned Russian missile strikes that hit multiple Ukrainian
cities on Monday, calling it an "unacceptable escalation of the war",
according to his spokesperson. "The Secretary-General is deeply shocked by
today's large-scale missile attacks," the spokesperson added. Ukraine
claims that Russia fired at least 75 missiles as part of the widespread strikes
Financing Platform Launched by IFC in response to Global Food Crisis
Financing Platform Launched by IFC: The International Finance Corporation
(IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank, has introduced a
new, $6 billion funding facility to boost the private sector's capacity to
respond to the Global Food crisis and aid in food production in response to
mounting food insecurity. Rising levels
of hunger and malnutrition (Global Food Crisis) have already been made worse by
climate change and increasingly extreme weather events that are destroying
harvests and lowering yields. The conflict in Ukraine and an unequal worldwide
recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic have exacerbated to this trend. Using the $6 billion and IFC (International
Finance Corporation)'s sectoral experience in agribusiness, manufacturing,
infrastructure, technology, the financial industry, and trade financing,
private sector businesses along the food value chain will be supported. The Financing Platform Launched by IFC
(International Finance Corporation) will add to the World Bank 's $30 billion
pledge to address the food crisis.

Indian Cricketer Smriti Mandhana unveiled as Gulf Oil India ambassador
Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has signed on as a brand ambassador of
lubricant manufacturer Gulf Oil India. India women’s vice-captain joins current
men’s cricket ace Hardik Pandya and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as an
ambassador for the company. Through the
partnership, Gulf Oil stated that it aims to ‘celebrate women power’ and
‘inspire female audience in the country’, while also honouring the achievements
of Indian women cricketers. With this association, Gulf Oil claims to have
become the first company in the lubricant space to appoint a woman cricketer as
ambassador to represent the organisation and its ethos.

TCS reports net profit of ₹10,465 crore in Q2 FY23
TCS announced its
results for the quarter ended September 2022, reporting a consolidated net
profit of ₹10,465 crore at a year-on-year growth of 8.41%. TCS said the revenue
from operations grew by 18.01% year-on-year to ₹55,309 crore, while revenue
grew 4.83% compared to the previous quarter. In constant currency terms, the
company saw a 15.4% year-on-year growth in revenue.
Adani Ports gets NCLT nod to acquire remaining 58.1% stake in Gangavaram
Port
Adani Ports and
Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) received approval from the NCLT to acquire the
remaining 58.1% stake in Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) via the composite scheme
of arrangement. The acquisition involves 517 million shares at ₹120 per share
amounting to ₹6,200 crore and will be done through a share swap arrangement.
GPL is located next to Vizag Port.
Expect trade with India to cross $100 billion in 2 to 3 years: UAE
UAE's foreign trade
minister Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said the UAE expects trade with India to
cross $100 billion following the comprehensive economic partnership agreement
signed in May 2022. The Indo-UAE trade stood at $73 billion, growing by 68%
from last year. The total value of non-oil trade stood at $29.5 billion in
first half of 2022.
Indian space economy to reach $13 bn by 2025: Report
India's space
economy is expected to be worth nearly $13 billion by 2025, according to a
report released by the Indian Space Association (ISpA) and Ernst and Young. The
satellite launch services segment will witness the highest growth due to
government allowing participation of private players, the report added. In

Former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni launches Made-in-India ‘Droni’ camera
drone
Former Indian cricket Mahendra Singh Dhoni has launched the made-in-India
camera drone named 'Droni' with advanced features manufactured by Garuda
Aerospace. Dhoni is the brand ambassador
of Garuda Aerospace, a company which has attempted to offer drone solutions for
agricultural pesticide spraying, solar panel cleaning, industrial pipeline
inspections, mapping, surveying, public announcements, and delivery services.
It has ventured into the consumer drone market with 'Droni'.
Ease of Doing Business : DPIIT conducts National Workshop
In New Delhi, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT)
held a national workshop on the topic of "Ease of Doing Business."
Shri Parameswaran Iyer, CEO of Niti Aaayog, gave the keynote speech at the
workshop. The vision of Prime Minister
Shri Narendra Modi for ease of living and Ease of doing Business was also
discussed by Shri Iyer. By learning from
one another, he stated, the whole of government approach should be achieved. The prominent panellists emphasised the
significance of coordination between the federal and state governments,
responsibility distribution among the nodal departments, and effective
monitoring as a few pillars that contributed to India's improvement in the

RBI Launches Concept Note To Create Awareness About Central Bank Digital
Currency (CBDC)
The Reserve Bank Of India(RBI) has released a concept note on the Central Bank
Digital Currency (CBDC). The CBDC is a digital form of currency notes issued by
a central bank. While most central banks across the globe are exploring the
issuance of CBDC, the key motivations for its issuance are specific to each
country's unique requirements. This
Concept Note explains the objectives, choices, benefits and risks of issuing a
CBDC in India, referred to as e-₹ (digital Rupee). The e-₹ will provide an additional
option to the currently available forms of money. It is substantially not
different from banknotes, but being digital it is likely to be easier, faster
and cheaper. It also has all the transactional benefits of other forms of
digital money.
Gross direct tax collection increases by over 23 % to Rs 8,98,000 crore
in current financial year
The gross direct tax collections has increased by over 23 per cent to eight
lakh ninety eight thousand crore rupees in the current financial year as
compared to last year. Finance Ministry said, the provisional figures of direct
tax collections still continue to register steady growth. In order to garner income for the government
to finance social projects, tax is collected from individuals and corporations
via direct tax and indirect tax. These two tax collections form the
government's revenue. Revenue receipts can be of two types — non-tax revenue
and tax revenue. Tax revenue is the income gained by the government through
taxation. Tax revenue forms a part of
the Receipt Budget, which in turn is part of the Annual Financial Statement of
the Union Budget. Union Budget keeps the account of the government's finances
for the fiscal year that runs from April 1 to March 31. Union Budget is
classified into Revenue Budget and Capital Budget.

Payments startup
PhonePe Co-founders Sameer Nigam and Rahul Chari have acquired the Mumbai
Meteors franchise in the Prime Volleyball League (PVL). Former Indian
volleyball team captain Abhijit Bhattacharya has been appointed as the General
Manager of the Mumbai Meteors. Sameer Nigam said that he is a regular
volleyball player and is excited about this opportunity.

Racing: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen wins F1 Japanese Grand Prix
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was declared Formula One world champion after
winning a dramatic rain-shortened Japanese Grand Prix. This was the 25-year-old
Dutchmans second championship in a row, which he won with four races to go. Red Bull's Verstappen crossed the line first
and he was then awarded the title when second-place finisher Charles Leclerc
was given a five-second penalty, dropping him to third.
Harmanpreet Singh and Felice Albers named FIH Player of the Year
India men’s hockey team defender and vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh has been
voted the FIH Player of the Year for the second year running. The 26-year-old became
just the fourth player to win the Player of the Year award (men’s category) in
consecutive years, joining an elite list that includes Teun De Nooijer
(Netherlands), Jamie Dwyer (Australia) and Arthur van Doren (Belgium). In women's category: Felice Albers of
Netherlands was named the FIH Player of the Year. The 22-year-old became the
youngest winner of the FIH Player of the Year award (women’s category) since
Germany's Natascha Keller (1999) and second youngest ever, since the inception
of the awards in 1998.
Pankaj Advani wins his record 25th World title in Kuala Lumpur
Indian cueist, Pankaj Advani defended his World Billiards Championships
(150-up) title for the 5th time, beating compatriot Sourav Kothari in the
best-of-7 frames final at the High End Snooker Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
for a record 25th title at the global level.
Pankaj's last world title came over 12 months ago in Qatar where he won
the IBSF Six-Red Snooker World Cup.

World Mental Health Day 2022 Observed on 10 October
World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 every year. On this day,
various programs are designed to draw attention to mental health issues and
their effects on those affected and the lives of their caregivers. In India, World Mental Health Day is marked
on the final day of the Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week campaign,
launched last year by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The theme or rather the slogan for 2022’s
celebration of World Mental health Day is “Make mental health & well-being
for all a global priority.” World Health Organisation (WHO) mentions that
before the COVID-19 pandemic, about one in eight people worldwide suffered from
mental issues. World Federation for
Mental Health (WFMH) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1948. The
then WFMH Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter initiated the first
celebration of World Mental Health Day on October 10, 1992. From 1994 onwards,
a special theme was selected each year for the global event.
World Post Day 2022 celebrates on 9th October
World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the
establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. This day celebrates the role of the post in
people's and businesses' everyday lives. It was declared World Post Day by the
UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the
world participate annually in the celebrations. The Posts in many countries use
the event to introduce or promote new postal products and services. The theme for World Post Day 2022 is 'Post
for Planet'. The Post is the world's largest logistics network. Every year,
more than 150 countries celebrate World Post Day in a variety of ways. In
certain countries, World Post Day is observed as a working holiday.
Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Day celebrates on October 9
October 9 is celebrated as Indian Foreign Service Day. On 9 October 1946, the
Indian government established the Indian Foreign Service for India's
diplomatic, consular and commercial representation overseas. Indian Foreign Service (IFS) will grow from
strength to strength in the coming years and will help advance India's
interests globally, said External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar as he
greeted the members of foreign service on the IFS Day 2022. The history of the Service and this day goes
back to September 1946, when, on the eve of India’s Independence, the
Government of India decided to create a service called the Indian Foreign
Service for India’s diplomatic, consular and commercial representation
overseas.
