S&P Global retains India's GDP growth
projection at 7.3% for FY23
S&P Global
Ratings has said, "We've retained our India's [GDP] growth outlook at 7.3%
for the fiscal year 2022-2023 and 6.5% for the next fiscal year." It also
cited downside risks and said that inflation is likely to remain above RBI's
upper tolerance threshold of 6% till 2022-end. Notably, ADB has slashed India's
GDP growth forecast to 7% for FY23.
Tamil Nadu Cabinet approves ordinance to ban
online gaming
The Tamil Nadu
Cabinet headed by CM MK Stalin on Monday approved the ordinance to ban online
gaming in the state. The ordinance will be promulgated after getting the
approval of the Governor. In June, Stalin announced in the Assembly the
formation of a committee to look into the adverse effects of online rummy.
President Murmu to inaugurate HAL's ICMF in
Bengaluru
President Droupadi
Murmu will inaugurate the Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility
(ICMF) established by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bengaluru on September
27. The ₹208-crore facility would house the entirety of rocket engine
manufacture. ICMF features over 70 high-tech tools and testing facilities for
the production of cryogenic and semi-cryogenic engines for Indian rockets.
India to Invest $30 billion for 4G, 5G Connectivity to Every
Village
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government is investing nearly $30
billion to ensure last-mile network accessibility for 4G and 5G in every
village across the country and build a robust digital infrastructure in the
rural areas. Speaking at the 'Global
Fintech Fest 2022', Vaishnaw said the government has reached out to over 1.5
lakh gram panchayats to date. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi has given us a clear mandate to overhaul our digital
regulatory framework such that it is globally benchmarked and endorses global
competitiveness.
Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel launched ‘Hamar Beti Hamar Maan’ campaign
Chhattisgarh government has decided to launch a campaign on women’s safety
titled ‘Hamar Beti Hamar Maan’ (our daughter, our honour). The focus of the campaign is creating
awareness on safety measures among school- and college-going girls and
prioritising registration and investigation of women-related crimes. The launch
of the campaign was announced by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Under the campaign, lady police officers and
personnel will visit schools and colleges in the state to hold discussions and
give guidance on legal rights, good touch-bad touch and preventive measures
against sexual harassment and exploitation, cybercrime and social media-related
crime, to girl students.

Global economy paying high price for
Russia's illegal war: OECD
Organisation for
Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has said the global economy will
take a bigger hit than previously forecast in 2023 amid the Russian invasion of
Ukraine. "World economy is paying...high price for Russia's...illegal war
of aggression against Ukraine," it said. OECD cut its 2023 growth forecast
for the global economy to 2.2% from 2.8% it estimated in June.
US whistleblower Edward Snowden granted
Russian citizenship
Edward Snowden, who
exposed the scale of secret surveillance operations by America's National
Security Agency, has been granted Russian citizenship by President Vladimir
Putin. The 39-year-old had fled the US and was given asylum in Russia after he
leaked secret files in 2013. US authorities have sought his return ever since
for a criminal trial on espionage charges.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday said he does not think that Russian President

they choose to join Russia in "referendums" that are currently
underway.
Philippines to shut 175 gambling firms,
deport 40,000 Chinese workers
The Philippines
will stop operations of 175 gambling firms and deport nearly 40,000 Chinese
workers, the country's government said on Monday. Philippines offshore gambling
operators are known for targeting clientele from China, where gambling is
banned. "Reports of murder, kidnapping...committed by Chinese nationals
against fellow Chinese nationals" prompted the crackdown, authorities
stated.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl named as Director General of ICMR
Dr Rajiv Bahl has been appointed as the new director general of the Indian
Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-cum-secretary of the department of health
Research for a period of three years. Bahl
currently heads the research on maternal, newborn child and adolescent health
cum-newborn unit on maternal, Department of Maternal Newborn Child and
Adolescent Health and Ageing, at the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva.
Appointment of Sanjai Kumar as new Chairman & MD of Railtel
As the new Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel, Sanjai Kumar is in
charge. Sanjai Kumar previously held the position of Director (Network Planning
& Marketing/NPM) at RailTel, along with the added responsibility of
Director (Project, Operations & Maintenance/POM). The University of Allahabad awarded Kumar a
Bachelor of Technology in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, while
the Management Development Institute in Gurugram awarded him a Post Graduate
Diploma in Management. He has around 30
years of varying experience in railroad operations, project management, and
marketing. He is an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers
(IRSSE). He stated that he wanted to
concentrate on doing business internationally, including exporting services and
participating in international bids and contracts.
Former Indian captain Dilip Tirkey elected as President of Hockey India
Former India captain Dilip Tirkey, who was the front-runner for the post of
Hockey India president, was elected unopposed for the top job. He was elected after Uttar Pradesh Hockey
chief Rakesh Katyal and Hockey Jharkhand's Bhola Nath Singh, who were in the
fray for the president's post, withdrew their nominations. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has
approved Tirkey and his team's appointments. Bhola Nath has been elected
unopposed as secretary general.
Dr. M Srinivas named as new Director of AIIMS Delhi
The dean of Employees’ State Insurance Company (ESIC) Hospital and Medical
College, Hyderabad, Dr M Srinivas has been appointed the director of New
Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), nearly six months
after the tenure of the previous director, Dr Randeep Guleria, formally ended. The appointment is for a period of five years
with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till
attaining the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is the
earliest, according to the order.

SEBI imposes ₹95 lakh fine on 19 persons for
fraudulent trading
Securities and
Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed a fine of ₹95 lakh on 19 persons for
indulging in manipulative trading in the shares of Global Infratech and Finance
Limited. These persons reportedly followed a uniform strategy of executing
3,266 trades in a substantial quantity of shares to mislead investors. They
have to pay the fine within 45 days.
BSE receives SEBI's final approval to launch
EGR on its platform
Bombay Stock
Exchange (BSE) said it has received the final approval from the capital markets
regulator SEBI for introducing the Electronic Gold Receipt (EGR) on its
platform. EGRs will cater to all market participants. The EGR platform will
provide increased assurance in the quality of gold supplied, efficient price
discovery, and transparency in transactions.
Govt extends foreign trade policy by 6
months
The Commerce
Ministry announced it has decided to extend the existing Foreign Trade Policy
(FTP) (2015-20) by another six months till March 2023. Additional Secretary in
the Department of Commerce, Amit Yadav, said there were demands from different
sectors to extend the policy. They claimed that currently there are challenges
like global uncertainties and currency fluctuations.
Govt commits ₹7,385 cr under Fund of Funds
for Startups
Fund of Funds for
Startups (FFS), launched under the Startup India Initiative in 2016, has
committed ₹7,385 crore to 88 Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) as of
September 24, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said. FFS was announced
with a corpus of ₹10,000 crore. The AIFs in turn have invested ₹11,206 crore in
720 startups, the Ministry added.
Leh achieved 100 percent digitization of banking operations
The highest-located district in India, Leh has achieved 100 per cent
digitization of banking operations. Union Territory Level Bankers Committee
Ladakh, the Reserve Bank of India has felicitated the bankers of the district. Leh district has completed the digitization
of all the operating banks in a short span of a year. Digital Banking refers to
the electronic banking service provided by a bank for its financial, banking
and other transactions through electronic devices online. In 2019 RBI put forward a proposal to make at
least one district of every state in the country have 100 per cent digitization
of banking operations.

Arogya Manthan 2022 event was officially launched by the Union Health Minister

Our solar system's
largest planet Jupiter will make its closest approach to Earth since 1963 or in
nearly six decades, NASA said. At its farthest point, the planet is 600 million
miles away from Earth and will approach approximately 367 million miles at its
nearest point. It'll reportedly be visible from 5.30 pm on Monday till 5.31 am
tomorrow.
Amazon tie-up with Amp Energy to establish its first solar project in
India
Amazon establishing its first solar project in India: Amazon said that its
first solar farm would be located in India. Three solar power plants with a
combined capacity of 420 megawatts (MW) will be built in Rajasthan by the
largest e-commerce company, Amazon. Along
with Amp Energy, Amazon has also contracted to 210 MW and 110 MW projects with
ReNew Power and Brookfield Renewables, respectively. Amp Energy India, a producer of renewable
energy (RE), has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to sell RE to Amazon
from a 100 MW solar power facility in Rajasthan as part of Amazon's plans for
India.
