Mukul Rohatgi rejects Centre's offer of
second term as Attorney General of India
Senior Advocate
Mukul Rohatgi on Sunday turned down the central government's offer of a second
term as Attorney General (AG) of India. Rohatgi had first served as the AG from
2014 to 2017 and as per ANI, he didn't give any specific reason for not
returning to the post. Current AG KK Venugopal's term ends on September 30.
Govt aims to deliver 10 lakh Ayushman Bharat
cards daily
Union Health
Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday said the Centre aims to deliver 10 lakh
Ayushman Bharat cards every day under its health scheme Ayushman Bharat –
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). He added that 19 crore
beneficiaries have the card. About ₹100 crore will be spent in every district
to strengthen the health infrastructure under the mission.
Best time to invest in India now: Minister
to Indian diaspora in US
Interacting with
Indian diaspora in the US, Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh said this
is "the best time" to invest in the country. He invited the NRIs and
Persons of Indian origins to come and explore the start-up boom in India. With

Raj govt approves ₹100 cr additional package
for small businesses
CM Ashok Gehlot-led
Rajasthan government has approved additional financial support of ₹100 crore
for the 'Mukhyamantri Laghu Protsahan Yojana' scheme to promote small
businesses, a statement by the state's DIPR said. "This will help in the
smooth operation of the scheme," the state government said. CM Gehlot has
also approved a proposal for multiple exemptions to boost local exporters.
Break all records this festive season to buy
Khadi products: PM
PM Narendra Modi,
in his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, urged people to 'break all
records' in buying products of Khadi, handloom or handicrafts this festive
season as part of the Vocal for Local campaign. "This campaign is also
special because during...Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, we're also onwards with the
goal of a self-reliant India," he said.
92 Raj Congress MLAs threaten to quit to
protest CM Gehlot's decision to step down
Around 92 Rajasthan
Congress MLAs loyal to CM Ashok Gehlot reached Assembly Speaker CP Joshi's
house to resign, in protest of Gehlot hinting that he will step down from the
top post. "MLAs are upset that...CM Ashok Gehlot [took the] decision
without consulting them," said Pratap Singh Khachariyawas. Gehlot will
reportedly run for Congress presidential post.

Mozilla accuses Google, Microsoft & Apple
of anti-competitive practices
Mozilla has
criticised Apple, Google and Microsoft for their operating systems that make it
difficult for browsers to be used on the platforms they control, Firefox
Internet browser developer said in a report. These operating systems make it
difficult for consumers to switch browsers by setting their own browsers as
default in prime position on home screen, the report added.

Russian staff at
airlines and airports have started receiving conscription notices after
President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial military mobilisation, Kommersant
reported. Staff of at least five airlines, including top carrier Aeroflot, and
staff at over 10 airports reportedly received notices. Most pilots in airlines
are reserve officers trained in flight schools' military departments.
Russia will face 'catastrophic consequences'
if it uses nukes: US
US National
Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday said Russia would face
"catastrophic consequences" if it uses nuclear weapons against
Ukraine. Washington has privately "spelt out [to Moscow] in...detail
exactly what that would mean", he said referring to the US planned
response to a nuclear attack. Russia has warned that it will use nuclear
weapons if an "existential threat" arises.
Toyota shuts Russian factory, no plans to
resume operation
Toyota announced
that it was closing its assembly line near Saint Petersburg due to interruptions
of supplies of key parts. The industrial site spanning over 224 hectares
suspended production in March due to supply chain issues. It reportedly
employed around 2,600 people and produced around 80,000 cars Camry and RAV4
models last year.

FPIs invest ₹8,600 crore in September;
investment rate slows
According to data
from depositories, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have invested ₹8,638
crore of equity in India in September so far, amid Indian rupee's decline.
Investors had invested over ₹51,000 crore last month. Fears of recession,
further rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve and tensions in Russia and Ukraine
were seen as reasons behind the decline.
70 lakh mutual funds investor accounts added
in first 5 months of FY23
Data from the
Association of Mutual Funds in India showed that asset management companies
added 70 lakh investor accounts in the first five months of FY 2022-23. The
increase was attributed to an increase in digital access and growing awareness
about mutual funds. According to the data, 43 fund houses reported a total
folio tally of 13.65 crore in August'22.
RBI may slow down on rate cuts till next
year: Asian Development Bank
The Asian
Development Bank (ADB) said that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may slow down
the pace of rate hikes until next year to tackle inflation. The multilateral
funding agency claimed the economic activity in India was yet to reach
pre-pandemic levels. It raised the inflation forecast for the current fiscal
year ending in March 2023 to 6.7%.
India is shining star of global economy:
S&P Chief Economist
During an
interview, S&P Global Ratings Chief Economist Paul Gruenwald said that
"India is the shining star of the global economy right now". "In
a world where almost everyone is slowing down, India will be posting 7+% growth
this fiscal year and 6.5% for...next year," Gruenwald said. He, however,
added, "India...[has] to be cognisant of what...US Federal Reserve is
doing."
India's defence exports grew 334% in last 5
years: Centre
The Centre on
Sunday said defence exports have grown by 334% in last five years. "India
[is] now exporting to over 75 countries due to collaborative efforts," the
Centre said. Government wishes to change the fact that in last 75 years, India
has continued to be one of the world's largest importers of defence products,
Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar said.
Suzlon to raise ₹1,200 crore via rights
issue
Suzlon Energy
stated that it would issue rights of 240 crore shares at ₹5 per share to raise
₹1,200 crore. The company, in its regulatory filing, added that it had received
approval from the Securities Issue Committee of the Board. Five rights equity
shares will be issued for every 21 fully paid-up equity shares held by eligible
shareholders.
Light Microfinance secures ₹196 crore in Series
B funding
Ahmedabad-based
NBFC Light Microfinance has secured ₹196 crore in its Series B funding led by
British International Investment (BII). The company's existing investors,
Nordic Microfinance Initiative (NMI), Triple Jump and Incofin IM, also
participated in the funding. CEO Rakesh Kumar stated that the company will
expand its presence in north India as well as its fintech offerings.
Nestle plans to invest ₹5,000 crore in India
by 2025: Report
The CEO of Swiss
food and beverage company Nestle, Mark Schneider on Friday said that the
company is planning to invest ₹5,000 crore in India by 2025 to accelerate its
core business in the country. The investment would reportedly be on capex
(capital expenditure), setting up new plants and acquisitions. The investment
will also help in creating more job opportunities.
India fastest growing global IoT module
market in 2nd quarter: Report
According to Counterpoint
Research, India was the fastest growing Internet of Things (IoT) module market,
showing a growth of over 264% in the second quarter of this year. The sharp
growth was attributed to smart meters, telematics, point of sale (POS) and
automotive applications. Global cellular IoT module shipments grew by 20% in Q2
2022 (year-over-year).

India defeat Australia in 3rd T20I, win 11
out of their 14 international series in 2022
India defeated
Australia by six wickets in the third T20I in Hyderabad to win the three-match
series 2-1. The match witnessed Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli slam fifties
as India chased down 187-run target in 19.5 overs. India have now won 11 out of
their 14 bilateral series across formats in international cricket in 2022.
Jasprit Bumrah records his worst-ever
figures in T20I cricket

bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday recorded his worst-ever bowling figures in T20I
cricket. The 28-year-old gave away 50 runs in his four overs and did not pick
up any wicket. His previous worst figures in T20I cricket came on August 27,
2016, when he gave away 47 runs for two wickets against West Indies.
India break world record for winning most
T20I matches in a calendar year
India have broken
the world record for most victories in T20I cricket in a calendar year. The
victory in the third T20I against Australia on Sunday was India's 21st victory
in T20Is in 2022. The previous world record was held by Pakistan, who won 20
T20I matches in 2021. India have won 10 T20Is on their home soil this year.
Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge betters own
world record by 30 secs
Two-time Olympic
gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge bettered his own world record by posting a time of
2 hours, 1 minute and 9 seconds in the Berlin Marathon. The Kenyan
long-distance runner shaved 30 seconds off his previous best mark he set at the
same course in 2018. "My legs and my body still feel young," said
37-year-old Kipchoge.
