Jitendra Singh
Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh said that India has the third largest startup ecosystem and the third highest number of unicorns. While delivering a keynote address, Singh mentioned that this decade is expected to bring transformational changes for Indian science, technology and innovation (STI). He also said that over 49% startups are from tier two and three cities.

Jhunjhunwala's major holdings include Star Health & Allied Insurance, Tata Motors, Fortis Healthcare and CRISIL, Moneycontrol reported. Jhunjhunwala had a net worth of more than ₹46,000 crore, as per Forbes.
Robbers lock Fedbank staff in toilet in
Chennai; loot gold and money worth ₹20 crore
Three armed robbers looted 32 kg gold and other valuables from branch of Fedbank Financial Services Ltd (Fedfina) in Chennai on Saturday. Preliminary investigation revealed that money and gold jewellery worth around ₹20 crore was stolen. Robbers allegedly tied employees to chairs and locked them in toilet. "Four special teams have been formed and they are currently investigating," Police said.
Railways to hold heritage run of
167-year-old steam engine on I-Day
Indian Railways will hold a heritage run of a 167-year-old locomotive, which is the world's oldest working steam engine, on Independence Day. The special service will run between Chennai's Egmore and Kodambakkam railway stations. "The beautiful sound of the whistle will send you back to the times of the steam locomotive from the days gone by," Divisional Railway Manager said.

347 police personnel awarded medals for
gallantry; CRPF gets most awards
On the occasion of India's 76th Independence Day, 347 Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) were awarded to police personnel, with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) receiving 109 medals, the highest of any paramilitary or state police force. J&K Police received 108 PMGs, the highest among states and UTs. A total of 1,082 police personnel were given various awards this year
Water enters Cuttack's Bhattarika temple due
to floods in Odisha
Incessant rain has led to flooding in many parts of Odisha including Cuttack where water entered the Bhattarika temple. Over 1,000 people were evacuated as gates of the Hirakud Dam were opened, leading to flooding in Sambalpur. Several areas around the Mahanadi river have also been inundated, with 21 areas reporting 116.8 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall.
ITBP to scale 75 peaks, go on 75-day patrol
to mark 75 yrs of independence
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel will scale 75 peaks on Independence Day and complete a 75-day-long patrol along the LAC with China to mark 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, a senior officer said. The mountain expedition will cover 33 peaks in Ladakh and 16 in Uttarakhand, among others. The patrol, which started on August 1, will conclude on October 14.

Chinese and Thai air forces begin joint
training exercise
Air forces of China and Thailand commenced a joint training exercise on Sunday at Thailand's Udorn Air Force Base. The exercise has been code-named "Falcon Strike 2022", Xinhua reported. It will include drills such as air support, strikes on ground targets, and troop deployment. Both sides have reportedly sent fighter jets and airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft for the exercise.

points against Sunak: Survey
An opinion poll conducted by Opinium Research showed UK's Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is 22 percentage points ahead of her rival and UK's former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak in the race to become the next Prime Minister. Among a sample of 450 party members who had decided how they would vote, 61% favoured Truss while 39% favoured Sunak.
Scotland to be 1st country to ensure access
to free sanitary products
Scotland will become the first country in the world to protect the right to access free sanitary products with a new law that will be adopted on Monday. Under new legislation, local officials and education providers will be legally required to provide products for free to anyone in need. Additionally, government has allocated funding for menstrual health resources at institutions.

Paytm records loan distribution annual run
rate of ₹25,000 cr
Digital financial services company One97 Communications, which operates under the Paytm brand, said that the loan distribution business recorded an annual run rate of around ₹25,000 crore in July. In June, the company reported annual run rate of around ₹24,000 crore for the loan distribution business. Paytm disbursed 29.46 lakh loans in July 2022.
80% firms globally have suffered a
cyberattack in last 1 year: Study
A study by technology firm Acronis has showed that 80% of firms it surveyed suffered a cybersecurity breach in last one year, up from 68% from the previous year. Meanwhile, 9% of the firms also experienced at least one cyberattack/hour. The study further states that three in 10 surveyed companies reported facing a cyberattack at least once a day.

Billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, who passed away at the age of 62 on Sunday, was cremated at the Banganga Crematorium in Mumbai's Malabar Hill. Jhunjhunwala passed away after a sudden cardiac arrest, as per a doctor. He was suffering from chronic kidney disease and was on chronic dialysis, the doctor stated.
