UP
becomes first state to have 13 expressways in the nation
Uttar Pradesh's largest expressway network now has a foundation thanks to Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath. The state will
soon have better highway connectivity from many other nations throughout the
world. The state now boasts 13
expressways, making it the first state in the nation to do so. Six of the 13
expressways totaling 3200 km are in use while the other seven are under
construction.
Western Railways opened longest skywalk connecting Mumbai’s Bandra
Terminus to Khar station
The Western Railway’s (WR) longest skywalk from the Khar Road railway station
to the nearby Bandra Terminus has been opened for the passengers to reach the
platforms to board trains easily. The
skywalk spans 314 meters long and is 4.4 meters wide. Western Railway’s noted
that the skywalk will allow passengers to reach Bandra (T) directly by
deboarding at Khar station & taking south Foot Over Bridge. The new skywalk was built at an estimated
cost of Rs 14 crore. Around 510 MT structural steel, 20 MT Reinforcement steel
and 240 cum of concrete was used for the construction. This skywalk will
connect all foot over bridges of Bandra Terminus.
Rajasthan government will introduce India’s first right-to-health
bill
The Rajasthan government is soon likely to introduce in the Assembly the Right
to Health Bill, "the first of its kind in India", which aims to
commit to quality and affordable health care services through government and
private health care providers. In
January, the government had prepared a draft bill that defines the rights of
patients, their attendants and health care providers, as well as a system for
addressing grievances of the stakeholders.
Kharchi festival begins in Tripura
A week-long traditional Kharchi festival, offering prayer to 14 gods and
goddess, began with thousands of devotees converging at Khayerpur on the
eastern outskirts of the Tripura. Kharchi
Puja is predominantly a tribal festival but it owes its origins to Hindu
religion. Devotees and sadhus from across India and neighbouring Bangladesh
have also participated in the festival
Amit Shah virtually unveils 'Statue of Peace' of Swamy
Ramanujacharya
Union home minister, Amit Shah virtually unveiled the ‘Statue of Peace’ of
Swamy Ramanujacharya in Srinagar, located in a temple in the Sonwar region. Saint Ramanujacharya, also known as Ramanuja,
is considered to be a great thinker, philosopher and social reformer, a south
Indian Brahmin born in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur. Ramanuja is known to have revolted against
the discrimination of untouchability and played a role in bringing a big change
in society. He is a follower of Vaishnavism and taught people the principles of
salvation.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launches SVANidhi Mahotsav
On the occasion of second anniversary of the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s
AtmaNirbharNidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, the Housing and Urban affairs Minister,
Hardeep Singh Puri launched the ‘SVANIdhi Mahotsav,’ which will be celebrated
from 9th to 31st of July. The festival
will be organized in 75 cities across all states and Union Territories, and
showcase various cultural activities, digital training activities and loan
melas. It will also have functions for felicitation of distinguished Street
vendors.
To execute NEP 2020, PM launches Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam
According to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi launched Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam on the National Education
Policy in Varanasi. The Prime Minister
told the audience that "our education system and young generation carry a
large role of realising the vows of the "Amrit Kaal." He bowed to
Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya, wishing the Samagam all the best. The Prime
Minister opened the Akshay Patra Mid-Day Meal Kitchen at LT College earlier in
the day.

General Insurance appoints Paritosh Tripathi as MD & CEO
Private non-life insurer SBI General Insurance had appointed Paritosh Tripathi
as managing director and chief executive officer, effective July 5. He succeeds P.C. Kandpal, who has been posted
as Deputy Managing Director (DMD)-(P&RE) at the Corporate Center, State
Bank of India (SBI). Mr. Tripathi has
more than 32 years of banking experience and has worked in various departments
including MSME, mid-corporate segment, international banking and bancassurance.
Suranjan Das named as the new president of AIU
The Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor, Suranjan Das was appointed as the
president of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). His tenure as
president will be for one year from July 1.
Das said he will take up the issue of executing the new education
policy's (NEP) salient features, raising central funding for state varsities
involved in important research activities, and work on taking the standards of
Indian universities to global levels. Das, an eminent historian, was appointed
the vice-president of AIU a year ago.
R Dinesh named the Confederation of Indian Industry's new president
R Dinesh, Executive Vice-Chairman of TVS Supply Chain Solutions, has been
chosen as the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) President Designate for
the years 2022–2023. He previously
served as the Chairman of the National Committees on Logistics, the CII Family
Business Network India Chapter Council, the CII Tamil Nadu State Council, and
the CII Institute of Logistics Advisory Council. From 2018 to 2019, he served
as the Chairman of the CII Southern Region.
R K Gupta named as deputy Election commissioner
Senior bureaucrat R K Gupta was appointed as the deputy election commissioner,
an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said.
He comes in place of T Sreekanth. Gupta, a Central Secretariat Service
(CSS) officer, will serve as deputy election commissioner (Joint secretary
level) till 28 February next year, the date of his superannuation.

on differently-abled children
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran apologised for a dialogue in Malayalam film
'Kaduva' saying differently-abled children are born with their conditions due
to the sins of their parents. He also shared director Shaji Kailas' statement
in Malayalam which said that they only wanted to convey the villain's cruelty.
Earlier, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities had issued a notice
to the makers.
India's economic performance consistently
improved in last 4 yrs: PHDCCI
India's economic performance consistently improved among the top 10
economies in the world over the last four years, PHD Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (PHDCCI) said. It cited International Economic Resilience (IER)
rankings, wherein India's position improved from 6th in 2019 to 2nd in 2022.
India showed consistent improvement despite the COVID-19 crisis, PHDCCI
President Pradeep Multani said.
AMCs added 51 lakh investor accounts in June
quarter: AMFI data
Asset Management Companies added 51 lakh investor accounts in the June
quarter, as per the data by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
The total tally now stands at 13.46 crore. In comparison, 93 lakh accounts were
opened in the March quarter, the data further showed. Notably, the industry
crossed 10 crore folios in May 2021.
RBI to release norms for digital lending
this month: Report
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will release guidelines for 'Buy Now,
Pay Later' (BNPL) service and digital lending later this month, Financial
Express reported. A circular could be out as early as next week, the report
added. Last month, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the regulator would
introduce a framework to curb malpractices in the digital lending segment.
SEBI mulls bringing mutual fund units under
insider trading rules
The SEBI has proposed to bring transactions in mutual fund units under
insider trading regulations. Insiders would include those who have access to
unpublished price-sensitive information and their immediate relatives. In the
past, a few key personnel of a mutual fund redeemed their holdings in the
schemes while in possession of "sensitive information", the SEBI
noted in its discussion paper.
RBI imposes restrictions, withdrawal caps on
4 cooperative banks
The RBI has put withdrawal limits on four cooperative banks for six
months due to their deteriorating financial positions. They also cannot grant
or renew any loans, make investments or accept fresh deposits without RBI's
approval. The banks include Delhi's Ramgarhia Co-operative Bank, Mumbai's
Sahebrao Deshmukh Co-operative Bank and Sangli Sahakari Bank.
SIDBI to develop online platform for
startups, investors
The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) will develop an
online platform to bring together startups and investors. The platform will be
ready in two months, said Shruti Singh, Joint Secretary, Department for
Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). This portal, she added, would
help startups as they would not look for Alternate Investment Funds (AIFs)
outside.
Indian Air Force & PNB signs MoU for ‘PNB Rakshak Plus Scheme’
Public sector bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has signed a memorandum of
understanding (MoU) with the Indian Air Force (IAF) under its flagship scheme,
PNB Rakshak Scheme. The MoU focus on
providing a bouquet of benefits along with specially designed products for the
IAF personnel, including personal insurance cover. This scheme includes personal accident
insurance as well as air accidental insurance to serving, retired as well
trainees of the defence forces. It also covers retired defence pensioners,
along with personnel of the central armed police forces, state police force,
and metro police.
To
conduct fieldwork of inflation anticipation survey, RBI chooses Hansa Research
Group
In order to undertake field research for the July 2022 cycle of the consumer
confidence and inflation anticipation surveys, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
announced that it had chosen to partner with the Mumbai-based Hansa Research
Group. It is now known that M/s Hansa
Research Group Pvt.Ltd., Mumbai has been hired to conduct field work for the
July 2022 round of the two surveys on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India, the
RBI said in a statement. This follows
press releases announcing the launch of the consumer confidence survey (CCS)
and inflation expectation survey of households (IESH), both dated June 30,
2022.
SBI General Insurance launches Cyber VaultEdge insurance plan
SBI General Insurance has launched the Cyber VaultEdge insurance plan, a
comprehensive cyber insurance cover for individuals that provides protection
against financial losses arising from cyber risks and attacks. Individuals exposed to any form of cyber
risks can buy this policy for themselves and their family. Family includes
self, spouse, and 2 dependent children (up to 18 years of age).
Google launched Startup School India, targets 10,000 startups in small
cities
Tech Giant, Google launched the Startup School India initiative, which aims to
gather relevant information on startup building into a systematic curriculum to
help 10,000 startups in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The nine-week virtual programme will involve fireside
chats between Google leaders and collaborators from across the startup
ecosystem. Startup School is a series of
guided online trainings designed to equip early-stage startup founders with the
tools, products, and knowledge that growing companies need.

Tendulkar on Djokovic
Praising Novak Djokovic following his fourth straight Wimbledon title,
Sachin Tendulkar said it is no mean feat. "Djokovic's composure,
focus...consistency has been the hallmark of his game over the years. Lovely to
see Novak appreciating Nick Kyrgios and the staff at Wimbledon after this
win," he tweeted. Overall, it was Djokovic's seventh Wimbledon title. He
beat Kyrgios in the final.
Suryakumar breaks record for highest T20I
score by an Indian outside India
Team India batter Suryakumar Yadav has broken the record for registering
the highest-ever T20I score by an Indian outside India. Suryakumar smashed
117(55) against England in the third T20I at Trent Bridge in Nottingham to set
the record. The previous record was set by KL Rahul on August 27, 2016, when he
scored 110*(51) against West Indies in USA's Lauderhill.
Malaysia Open Badminton Tournament 2022 conclude
The 2022 Malaysia Open (officially known as the Petronas Malaysia Open 2022 for
sponsorship reasons) was a badminton tournament that took place at the Axiata
Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 28 June to 3 July 2022 and had a total
prize of US $675,000. The 2022 Malaysia
Open was the twelfth tournament of the 2022 BWF World Tour and was part of the
Malaysia Open championships, which had been held since 1937. This tournament
was organized by the Badminton Association of Malaysia with sanction from the
BWF.

36th National Games: To be held in Gujarat from Sep 27 to Oct 10
Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, declared that the 36th National
Games will be held in his state from September 27 to October 10 for the first
time ever. Due to a number of factors,
including the coronavirus pandemic since 2020, the prestigious event is being
hosted after a seven-year hiatus; the previous one was in Kerala in 2015. The chief minister claimed in another post
that Gujarat has world-class athletic facilities and that the sporting world is
experiencing a resurgence. The government will do everything possible to make
the national games the best athletic event ever.

Mission Kushal Karmi: Delhi Govt's scheme to improve construction
workers' skills
Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, started Mission Kushal
Karmi to help construction workers improve their abilities. According to a formal press release, the
Delhi government developed this programme with assistance from the Delhi Skill
and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) and Delhi Building and Other
Construction Workers Welfare Board. This
DSEU programme to increase the skills of construction workers, in collaboration
with Simplex, NAREDCO, and India Vision Foundation, is particularly unique.
Workers will upskill as part of this 15-day special training programme, which
will increase their salaries in the future.
2-Day training on Disaster Management of Museums held at Rashtrapati
Bhavan
At the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum, Rashtrapati Bhavan has organised a workshop
on "Disaster Management of Museums and Heritage Buildings" in
collaboration with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). The President's Secretariat announced today
that the goal of this training is to raise knowledge of disaster management
among Rashtrapati Bhavan staff and other takeholders, with a special focus on
heritage buildings, museums, and cultural heritage.

Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog, to serve as new G-20 Sherpa
The former CEO of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant, will take on the role of G-20
Sherpa. Piyush Goyal, a Union Minister, would be replaced by Kant because he is
expected to resign owing to workload. Later
this year, India will preside over the G-20. It should be highlighted that the
nation requires a full-time G-20 Sherpa, which Goyal is unlikely to provide as
he already holds a number of cabinet positions.
The Sherpa would need to dedicate a lot of time to several meetings that
will be held in various regions of the country because India will hold the G-20
presidency this year

Freedom fighter Gandhian P Gopinath Nair passes away
Freedom fighter P. Gopinathan Nair has passed away at the age of 100. He was
known for following Gandhian ideology in his life and was honoured with the
Padma award. He had participated in the freedom struggle. He had taken part in the Quit India Movement
of 1942 and had worked alongside Vinoba Bhave to promote Bhoodan and Gramdan
movements.
Former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe passes away
Shinzo Abe, Former Japan’s Prime Minister, who was shot at
during an election campaign in western Japan’s Nara city, has passed away.
The Nara fire department had earlier said that the 67-year-old Abe was in
cardiopulmonary arrest before he was taken to the hospital. They said that he had been wounded on the
right side of the neck and the left clavicle.Abe, the country’s longest-serving
prime minister until he resigned in 2020, was flown to hospital by helicopter
after the attack. It was the first assassination of a sitting or former
Japanese premier since the days of prewar militarism in the 1930s.
