India reports 11,739 new COVID-19 cases in
last 24 hours, state-wise list released
India has reported
11,739 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with Kerala reporting 4,098 and
Maharashtra reporting 1,728 cases. Active COVID-19 cases in the country stand
at 92,576. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 death toll in India has risen to 5,24,999
after 25 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
Kolkata Metro to run on pre-COVID levels
from July 1
Kolkata Metro will
restore its service capacity to pre-COVID levels from July 1 with the addition
of six more trains on its Kavi Subhas-Dakshineswar line. "From Friday,
there will be 288 services instead of 282, running from Monday to Friday...Of
these, 172 services will run between Kavi Subhas and Dakshineswar,"
Kolkata Metro stated on Saturday.
Rebel Shiv Sena MLAs move Supreme Court
against disqualification notices
Amid Maharashtra's
ongoing political crisis, the Eknath Shinde-led rebel camp has gone to the
Supreme Court with an appeal against disqualification notices issued to 16
rebel MLAs by state Assembly's Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal. The camp has also
challenged the appointment of Ajay Choudhari as the Shiv Sena Legislative Party
Leader and the rejection of no-confidence motion against Zirwal.
Maha Governor asks police to provide
security to rebel MLAs, their families
Amid the ongoing
political crisis in Maharashtra, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Sunday wrote
to state DGP Rajnish Seth and Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey,
directing them to provide security cover to all the rebel MLAs and their
families. According to Koshyari, 38 Shiv Sena MLAs, among others, have claimed
that security cover of their families has been "illegally withdrawn".
Gujarat Police arrests activist Teesta
Setalvad, seeks 14-day custody
Gujarat Police has
demanded a 14-day custody of activist Teesta Setalvad, who was arrested on
Sunday after Home Minister Amit Shah claimed her NGO allegedly spread
"baseless information" on Gujarat riots. "The accused [is] not
supporting us in the investigation...Teesta will be produced in front of the
magistrate and all her statements will be recorded there," Gujarat DCP
said.
BJP's Ghanshyam Lodhi wins Rampur LS bypoll
by defeating SP's Asim Raza
BJP leader
Ghanshyam Lodhi has won the Rampur Lok Sabha byelection after defeating SP
candidate Asim Raza, BJP leaders have claimed. Lodhi, a former SP MLC, had
joined the BJP ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. The seat fell
vacant after its sitting MP Azam Khan resigned and successfully contested the
Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.

Indonesian Prez to visit Ukraine, Russia on
peace-building mission
Indonesian
President Joko Widodo is set to go on a peace-building mission to Ukraine and
Russia. He said he will urge the leaders of both countries to engage in
dialogue. "War has to be stopped and global food supply chains need to be
reactivated," said Widodo before leaving for Germany to attend the G7
summit.
Israeli PM Bennett convenes Cabinet before
parliament is dissolved
Israeli PM Naftali
Bennett on Sunday likely convened his last Cabinet meeting as premier before
dissolution of the parliament. At the meeting, Bennett listed his government's
achievements and thanked his coalition partners for putting aside
"ideological disagreements" to work for the country. Israel will head
for elections a fifth time in three years as the eight-party coalition has
collapsed.

exchange WazirX is cutting down on all its non-critical costs amid plummeting
crypto prices. "We are hiring only critical hires, we aren't spending
money at all. It's literally crypto winter here," the company's Vice President
Rajagopal Menon told Bloomberg. 'Crypto winter' refers to a phase when crypto
prices decline and remain low for an extended period.
Wipro is much more 'growth-obsessed' than
before: Rishad Premji
In his letter to
shareholders as part of Wipro's Annual Report for FY22, Chairman Rishad Premji
has said that the company has become much more "growth-obsessed" than
before. With increased focus on large deals, the company has invested in
hyperscaler partnerships, inorganic acquisitions, and cloud initiatives, he
added. Premji also said that Wipro has transformed its structure and operating
model.
Indian Air Force receives 56,960
applications under 'Agnipath' scheme
Indian Air Force
(IAF) received 56,960 applications under 'Agnipath' scheme till Sunday, three
days after registration started on Friday, IAF stated on Twitter. "56,960!
That's the total number of applications received till date from future Agniveers
in response to the Agnipath recruitment application process," IAF's tweet
read. Several states have witnessed violent protests against Agnipath.

Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, while addressing the Indian community in Germany on Sunday, said
that India is making new records in data consumption. "India is among
those countries where data is the cheapest," he said. There was a time
when India would import the simplest of smartphones, but today it has become
the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, he added.
Future Enterprises defaults on ₹4.10 crore
interest payment
Future Enterprises,
a part of Future Group, on Saturday said it defaulted on an interest payment of
₹4.10 crore due on non-convertible debentures. The interest payment is due for
a principal amount of ₹40 crore, Future Enterprises said in a regulatory
filing. The firm had earlier defaulted on another interest payment of ₹6.07
crore.

V Krishnamurthy, hailed as the 'Father of
Indian PSUs', passes away aged 97
Padma Vibhushan
awardee Dr Venkataraman Krishnamurthy, who is hailed as the 'Father of public
sector undertakings in India', has passed away at the age of 97. Krishnamurthy
served as the Chairman of government-owned companies such as SAIL, GAIL (India)
and BHEL between 1972 and 1990. He was also the Founding Chairman of Maruti
Udyog, now known as Maruti Suzuki India.
