Amit Shah lays foundation stone for
Nrupathunga University in B'luru
Union Home Minister
Amit Shah on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the Nrupathunga University
in Bengaluru. He also virtually inaugurated the Forensic Science Laboratory in
Ballari. "Under PM Modi's leadership, we're building infra for higher education,"
Shah said. "In the journey of 75 years, the country has crossed a lot of
destinations and we're standing here today," he added.
India falls 8 positions to 150th rank in RSF 2022

The ranking of India's neighbours,
except that of Nepal, have also slid down, with the index placing Pakistan at
157th position, Sri Lanka 146th, Bangladesh 162nd and Maynmar at 176th
position, the report released by Reporters Without Borders said.

Motion in Canada Parliament to declare Nov
as Hindu Heritage Month
An Indo-Canadian
lawmaker, Chandra Arya, has moved a motion in Canada's Parliament to declare
November as Hindu Heritage Month. The motion calls to "recognise the
contributions that Hindu-Canadians have made to the socio-economic development
of Canada…the richness of Hindu Heritage and its vast contribution to the world
of arts and science...and its culture and traditions."
Special gesture: India as Denmark PM personally
comes to receive PM Modi at airport
After Denmark PM
Mette Frederiksen personally came to receive PM Narendra Modi at the Copenhagen
airport on Tuesday, External Affairs Ministry's Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi
said, "Heartwarming to see this special gesture from our Green
Partner." It is PM Modi's first visit to Denmark, where he will hold
bilateral and multilateral talks.
1,50,000 Ukrainians using Starlink internet
service daily: Govt
About 1,50,000
people in Ukraine are using SpaceX's Starlink internet service each day,
Ukraine Digital Minister Mykhailo Fedorov tweeted. He added, "This is
crucial support for...restoring the destroyed territories. Ukraine will stay connected
no matter what." This comes after SpaceX CEO Elon Musk activated Starlink
service in Ukraine in February following Fedorov's request amid war with
Russia.

GST on online gaming may be raised from 18%
to 28%: Reports
The Group of
Ministers has recommended casinos, racecourses and online gaming shall be taxed
under the 28% GST slab, reports said on Tuesday. Currently, online gaming is
taxed at 18% of the platform fee, which works out to 5-20% of the contest entry
amount. Chance gaming like racing, betting and lotteries are taxed at 28% of
the contest entry amount.
Merchandise exports rise 24.2% to $38 bn in
April, imports grow 26.6%
India's merchandise
exports rose 24.22% YoY from $30.75 billion in April 2021 to $38.19 billion in
April 2022, Commerce Ministry's preliminary data showed. Imports in April 2022
grew 26.55% YoY to $58.26 billion while trade deficit widened to $20.07 billion
against $15.29 billion in April 2021. Petroleum and crude products accounted
for 33.5% of imports in April this year.
India's GDP to not reach $5 trillion before
FY29: IMF data

India may only
become a $5-trillion economy in FY29, data from IMF's World Economic Outlook
Database suggested. As per the data, which doesn't go beyond FY28, India's
nominal GDP is seen rising to $4.92 trillion in FY28. Earlier this year, Chief
Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran had said India would become a $5-trillion
economy by FY26 or the following year.
Domestic mutual funds subscribe 71% of
LIC IPO anchor book
Domestic mutual
funds invested ₹4,002.27 crore, accounting for 71.12% of the total ₹5,627 crore
that LIC IPO mobilised from anchor investors on Monday. The largest investor
was SBI Mutual Fund, which invested ₹1,006.89 crore. Overall, LIC issued 59.29
million equity shares to 123 anchor investors at the upper price band of the
offer of ₹949 per share

Jain University tops Khelo India University
Games, Amit Shah presents trophy
Jain University has
topped the Khelo India University Games 2021 in Bengaluru, ending with 20 gold,
seven silver and five bronze medals. Chief guest at closing ceremony Union Home
Minister Amit Shah presented the trophy and congratulated all the universities
and athletes who participated in the event. Lovely Professional University and
Panjab University stood second and third respectively.
BCCI announce schedule for IPL 2022 playoffs
IPL 2022 playoffs
and final will be played from May 24 to May 29 in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, the
BCCI have announced. Qualifier 1 will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May
24, followed by Eliminator on May 25. Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium will host
Qualifier 2 and IPL 2022 final on May 27 and May 29, respectively.
