UP's Agra becomes first city to have vacuum-based sewer systems
Agra, Uttar Pradesh has become the first city in the country to have
vacuum-based sewer systems. These vacuums would be used in public places. Agra Smart City officials told the media that
the municipal corporation has linked 240 such houses near the Taj Mahal with
vacuum-based sewers, where conventional sewer systems could not be used. The estimated cost for the work of sewer
connection is Rs 100 crore. Presently, this technology is being used in
low-lying areas. The Maintenance and complete care will be done by the
Netherlands company for up to five years.
A vacuum sewer network of 240 houses has been constructed at Rs 5 crore.
All the chambers are equipped with geographic information system (GIS) based
sensors, which will help pinpoint the area of the chamber and the problem.
Bruce de Broize appointed as MD & CEO of Future Generali India Life
Insurance
Generali Asia has appointed Bruce de Broize as MD and CEO of Future Generali
India Life Insurance (FGILI). He takes over from Miranjit Mukherjee who served
as interim CEO since September 2021. He
was the Regional Head of Distribution for Generali Asia based in Hong Kong for
over five years. In March, Generali has become the majority shareholder of the
Indian life insurance joint venture after getting all regulatory approvals. Broize has a career spanning over 34 years of
life and P&C insurance experience. He has also held a range of senior
leadership roles to drive strategic initiatives across Asia. Prior to this, Broize was the regional head
of distribution for Generali Asia based in Hong Kong where he oversaw life,
health and p&c distribution for Generali’s operations across China, Hong
Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Vijay Sampla appointed NCSC chairperson for second time
BJP leader and former Union minister Vijay Sampla has been appointed as the
chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for a second
time. Sampla had resigned as the NCSC chairman ahead of the Punjab elections
and had contested the polls. The official order for his appointment was issued
by President Ram Nath Kovind. Sampla, a
prominent Dalit politician from Punjab, began his political career in 1998 as
the sarpanch of Sofipind village in Jalandhar Cantonment. He has also served in
the Punjab government. He was the chairman of the Punjab Khadi Board from 2008
to 2012 and the chairman of the Punjab State Forest Development Corporation in
2014. He was then elected to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur and became a Union
minister in 2015.
Deepika Padukone On Cannes Film Festival jury
Deepika Padukone will grace the Cannes Film Festival as a member of the jury,
this year. The actress-producer has attended the prestigious film festival
several times in the past, in the capacity of an ambassador of the beauty brand
L'Oreal. The jury for the 75th edition
of the film festival is headed by French actor Vincent Lindon, who won Best
Actor at Cannes in 2015. With her induction into the Cannes jury, Deepika
Padukone has become a part of a select group of Indian stalwarts who served in
the same role in the past, including Sharmila Tagore, Nandita Das, Aishwarya
Rai Bachchan, and Vidya Balan.
L&T tie-up with IIT Bombay to develop Green Hydrogen Technology
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute
of Technology (IIT) Bombay to jointly pursue research and development work in
the Green Hydrogen value chain. Under
the agreement, both the institutions would contribute to the development of the
Green Hydrogen industry in India while developing technology in this field.
Hydrogen when produced through the electrolysis process using renewable energy
is known as Green Hydrogen which has no carbon footprint. The Central Government in February 2022
notified the Green Hydrogen policy aimed at boosting the production of Green
Hydrogen and Green Ammonia to help the nation become a global hub for the
environmentally friendly version of the molecule. For countries like India, with its
ever-increasing oil and gas import bill, Green Hydrogen will help provide
crucial energy security by reducing the overall dependence on imported fossil
fuels. It should be noted that India has its own ambitious target of becoming
net-zero by 2070.
Lt General BS Raju appointed as new Vice
Chief of Army Staff
Lieutenant General BS Raju has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of
Army Staff. Lt General Raju is currently serving as the Director-General of
Military Operations. The appointment is reportedly a rare instance of an
officer who's not been an Army Commander, getting appointed as the Vice Chief.
He will take charge on May 1.
EAM Jaishankar meets Bhutanese counterpart,
hands over medical supplies
India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday met his
Bhutanese counterpart Tandi Dorji and handed over medical supplies to him.
Jaishankar said, "It's my honour to hand over the 12th consignment of
medical supplies to Bhutan, as a gift from the government and people of India
to...Bhutan." "We'll continue to stand...by your side
through...post-COVID-19 sustainable recovery," he added.

US unlikely to eliminate coronavirus: Anthony Fauci
The coronavirus pandemic is not over and it is unlikely that the US will
ever eliminate COVID-19, according to US President Joe Biden's Chief Medical
Advisor Anthony Fauci. "By no means is it over. We still are experiencing
a global pandemic," he said. Health officials are hoping to reach a point
where COVID-19 can be controlled, he added.
EU border agency chief resigns amid
accusations of rights abuse
The head of the European Union's border agency, Frontex, has resigned
amid criticism of the treatment of migrants at the borders. Fabrice Leggeri is
accused of tolerating illegal "pushbacks" of migrants, which violate
the EU's obligations under international humanitarian law that prohibits
returning people to where their lives would be at risk. Leggeri had dismissed
the accusations in the past.

Pencilton introduces contactless RuPay card in the form of keychain
Pencilton, a teen-focused fintech startup, has launched PencilKey, a National
Common Mobility Card (NCMC) compliant RuPay contactless keychain, in
partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and
Transcorp. Users can activate and manage
their PencilKey through the Pencilton app which is also used to load money,
check spends, block/unblock the account, set limits, etc. PencilKey is linked to the PencilCard which
is an all-in-one prepaid card, metro card, and bus card. PencilKey is equipped
with the benefits of NCMC which works at the Delhi Airport Metro line and Goa’s
buses currently. It is also scheduled to
be accepted for metro travel in Pune, Chennai & Mumbai as well as in BEST
buses in Mumbai. According to Pencilton, the virtual PencilCard comes for free. Users can buy their PencilKey for ₹150 and
PencilCard for ₹100, but as part of the company’s launch offer, users can also
buy a PencilKit (combo) which includes both PencilCard and PencilKey for ₹200.
LIC likely to list shares on exchanges on
May 17
he shares of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) are likely to
list on the stock exchanges on May 17. The IPO, which will be India's biggest
ever, will open for subscription on May 4 and close on May 9. The government is
expecting to raise ₹20,557 crore by diluting its 3.5% stake through the IPO.
India's economy may take up to 13 years to
recover from COVID-19 losses: RBI
India is expected to overcome the losses caused by the COVID-19
disruptions by 2034-35, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stated in its report on
currency and financing released on Friday. It further stated, "India
suffered among the biggest pandemic induced losses in the world in terms of
output, lives and livelihoods...Economic activity has barely recovered...even
after two years."
Wipro plans to hire 38,000 freshers in FY23
Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte said the company hired over 19,000 freshers
in FY22 and expects to double the number in FY23. Wipro added 45,416 employees
on a year-on-year basis during the financial year, taking its total headcount
to 2,43,128. The company said it plans to increase the frequency of promotion
cycle for 70% employees in junior bands to quarterly basis.

IPL 2022, move to 3rd on the points table
LSG defeated PBKS by 20 runs to register their sixth win in IPL 2022.
With the win, LSG have moved to the third position on the points table. PBKS
have now lost five matches in the season. Quinton De Kock top-scored for LSG in
the match with 46(37), while LSG pacer Mohsin Khan took three wickets.

The India Pharma Awards 2022, and India Medical Device Awards 2022 were handed
over by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers
Bhagwanth Khuba. The awards were handed
over during the seventh edition of India Pharma and Indian Medical Device 2022
which was organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (FICCI) and the Department of Pharmaceuticals.
The awards were given to various industry players in the field of medical
and pharmaceutical devices.

ABPMJAY- SEHAT scheme: Samba becomes 1st district to cover 100%
households
In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Samba district of the Jammu
division has become the first district in India to cover 100% of households
under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY)- SEHAT
scheme. The district achieved this
milestone after the conclusion of a special registration drive organized by the
State Health Agency (SHA) from April 11 to April 21 in all BDO offices across
the district which was aimed to cover all families under the ABPMJAY SEHAT
scheme in the district. The ABPMJAY
SEHAT scheme is the world’s largest health insurance scheme fully financed by
Government and the people with Ayushman Bharat Golden Card get free treatment
up to Rs. 5 lakh in all government and empanelled private hospitals across
India.

Bhushan Vinod Rai, former(11th) Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG)
India, has authored a new book titled “Not Just A Nightwatchman: My Innings in
the BCCI”. The book features his
33-month stint as the Chairman of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of
Administrators (CoA) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The book is published by Rupa Publications
India Pvt. Ltd. He was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2016 for civil service.
He was appointed as the first Chairman of the Banks Board Bureau(BBB) in 2016.
Devendra Fadnavis Releases the book on Amit Shah “Amit Shah Ani
Bhajapachi Vatchal”
Devendra Fadnavis, former Chief Minister(CM) of Maharashtra, released a Marathi
book on Amit Shah, Union Minister of Home Affairs, titled “Amit Shah Ani Bhajapachi
Vatchal”, a Marathi version of the book “Amit Shah and The March of BJP”. The book is published by Bloomsbury India.
The book was originally written by Dr Anirban Ganguly and Shiwanand Dwivedi and
it has been translated into Marathi by Dr Jyostna Kolhatkar. The book documents
the life and political journey of Amit Shah and details his contribution to BJP
in making it the world’s biggest political organisation.

The International Dance Day is observed globally on 29 April every year. The
day celebrates the value and importance of the dance and encourages
participation and education in this art form through events and festivals. This day is also celebrated to promote
the multiple benefits of dancing, to recognize dance as a stress reliever,
expressing oneself, a way of celebrating happiness, and an activity that brings
people together. In 1982 the Dance
Committee of ITI founded International Dance Day to be celebrated every year on
the 29th of April, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), creator of
modern ballet. The intention of the International Dance Day Message is to
celebrate dance, revel in the universality of this art form, cross all
political, cultural and ethnic barriers, and bring people together with a
common language - dance.
