Pramod Sawant to take oath as Goa CM
tomorrow; PM to attend event
BJP leader Pramod
Sawant will take oath as the Chief Minister of Goa for the second term at a
ceremony that will be held at 11 am on Monday. PM Narendra Modi and Defence Minister
Rajnath Singh will attend the oath-taking ceremony, a government spokesperson
said. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the event.
India to start building 10 nuclear reactors
in 'fleet mode' from 2023
India will begin
construction of 10 nuclear reactors in 'fleet mode' over the next three years
from 2023, officials said. The first pour of concrete (FPC) for a 700 MW atomic
plant in Karnataka is scheduled for 2023. Under the fleet mode, a nuclear power
plant is expected to be built over a period of five years from the FPC.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath extends free
ration scheme by 3 months
Uttar Pradesh CM
Yogi Adityanath, while addressing the new cabinet's first meeting on Saturday,
announced that the state government has decided to extend the free ration
scheme for the next three months. "It will benefit 15 crore people of the
state," Adityanath said. The scheme provides for an additional five
kilograms of food grain per household per month.
Ritu Khanduri becomes first female Speaker of

Khanduri Bhushan has become the first woman Speaker of the Uttarakhand
Legislative Assembly in the state's 21-year-history. Ritu, who is the daughter
of former state Chief Minister BC Khanduri, was elected unopposed. Ritu will be
the fifth speaker of the state Assembly and will succeed BJP MLA Premchand
Aggarwal.
S Jaishankar begins 5-day visit to Maldives and Sri

Minister of
External Affairs S Jaishankar began a 5-day visit to Maldives and Sri Lanka on
Saturday. He will inaugurate various India-supported projects and firm up
several agreements to further bolster bilateral cooperation in the Maldives.
"The minister's visit is testimony to...importance that India attaches to
its close and friendly relations with Maldives and Sri Lanka," the
government said.
PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana to provide free grains
extended till Sept
Union Cabinet on
Saturday decided to extend PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana by another six months,
till September 2022. The scheme was introduced after the coronavirus outbreak.
In November 2021, it was extended till March 2022 for the nearly 80 crore
beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act. The beneficiaries
get 5 kg of food grains free of cost.
China wanted its Foreign Minister to meet PM Modi,
govt declined: Report
China had reached
out to India for Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to call on PM Narendra Modi,
but the government politely declined, The Indian Express reported. India
reportedly conveyed to China that PM Modi was busy on Friday since he had to
attend the swearing-in ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
in Lucknow.
Paytm Mall, Snapdeal fined ₹1 lakh each for
selling defective pressure cookers
Paytm Mall and
Snapdeal have been fined ₹1 lakh each by the Central Consumer Protection
Authority (CCPA) for selling non-standard pressure cookers. The CCPA found the
companies guilty of selling pressure cookers which did not conform to BIS
standards. The e-commerce platforms have been asked to recall the defective
pressure cookers sold on their platform and reimburse the customers.
BJD's Sulochana Das becomes 1st female Mayor of
Bhubaneswar
BJD's Sulochana Das
on Saturday became the first female Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
"I want to thank the people of Bhubaneswar and our CM Naveen Patnaik for
giving me this opportunity. Smart and vibrant Bhubaneswar is our first priority,"
she said. BJD's mayoral candidates won in all three municipal corporations
namely Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur.
Telangana CM to attend reconstructed Yadadri

Chandrashekar Rao will attend the inauguration ceremony of the
newly-reconstructed Yadadri temple on Monday. Minister of Endowment, Indrakaran
Reddy, said he'll be present at the 'Maha Kumbha Samprokshana' along with
various ministers, MPs and other leaders who'll take Lord Lakshmi Narasimha
Swamy's blessings. He added the temple will be open for public from 4 pm
onwards.

Russian referendum in occupied territory
won't be legal: Ukraine
Ukraine said on
Sunday that Russia holding a referendum in occupied Ukrainian territory will
invite global condemnation and increased isolation. "All fake referendums
in...temporarily occupied territories...will [not be legal]," Ukraine's
Foreign Ministry said. This comes after the leader of the Ukrainian breakaway
region of Luhansk said the region may soon hold a referendum to join Russia.
Insurance firm removes its 'Z' logo from
social media amid Russia-Ukraine war
Zurich Insurance
has removed its 'Z' logo from social media after the letter became a symbol of
support for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Swiss insurance company said it
did not want to be misinterpreted as supporting Russia in the conflict. The
letter 'Z' has been used as a marking on Russian military vehicles taking part
in the conflict.

FDI in India has broken records every year
in last 7 years: Piyush Goyal
Commerce Minister
Piyush Goyal on Sunday said foreign direct investment (FDI) in India in the
last seven years "has consistently been growing and has broken all records
year after year". He added that this shows India is emerging as a
preferred destination for investment. "We had record investments in the
COVID-19 period too," he said.
Adani Finserve, Tata AIG, 52 other firms bid
for Reliance Capital: Reports
Adani Finserve,
Tata AIG and ICICI Lombard are among 54 prominent companies that have expressed
interest to acquire debt-ridden Reliance Capital Limited, PTI reported on
Sunday. The company's board was superseded by RBI on November 29 in view of
payment defaults and governance issues. The company had said in September 2021
that it had a consolidated debt of ₹40,000 crore.

KKR win IPL 2022 opener, end their 4-match losing
streak against CSK
IPL 2021 runners-up
KKR defeated defending champions CSK by six wickets in the IPL 2022 opener at
the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. With the victory, KKR ended their four-match
losing streak against CSK. The match witnessed former CSK captain MS Dhoni
smash a fifty in IPL after almost three years. Umesh Yadav registered bowling
figures of 4-0-20-2 for KKR.
PV Sindhu becomes 2nd Indian female
badminton player to win Swiss Open
PV Sindhu has
become the second Indian female badminton player to win Swiss Open title. The
26-year-old defeated Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-16, 21-8 in the final
to win her second title of 2022. Saina Nehwal had become the first Indian woman
to win Swiss Open in 2011. She also won the title in 2012.

After India crashed
out of the 2022 Women's World Cup, India captain Mithali Raj said "girls
gave it all" and she was proud of the team for their performance in the
tournament. "With the bowlers we had, I thought 274 was a good total...it'll
take time to settle the emotions," she added. India lost to South Africa
by three wickets.
