Mysuru, Chandigarh cleanest cities in India in 2016, Dhanbad dirtiest
Mysuru in Karnataka has topped the list of 10 cleanest cities as per the Swachh Survekshan-2016. Chandigarh has been ranked second and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu holds the third spot.
At the fourth spot is New Delhi Municipal Council NCT of Delhi, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh is at the fifth spot, Surat in Gujarat holds the sixth spot. At the seventh place is Rajkot in Gujarat, Gangtok in Sikkim is at the eighth place, Pimpri Chindwad in the Maharashtra at the ninth spot and Navi Mumbai is at the tenth spot.
A survey of a total of 73 cities was done for the survey. The Swachh Survekshan-2016 primarily intends to measure the impact of the efforts under Swachh Bharat Mission launched after the Survey of 2014 besides ranking the 73 cities based on strategic efforts for infrastructure creation relating to toilets, solid waste management, present level of service delivery and behavior change communication. Survey results including ranks are announced to further promote a healthy spirit of competition among the cities.
