SBI Clerks 2014 FAQ - Get your doubts cleared
SBI Clerk notification has been announced just few days back and there are many doubts/queries coming in the mind of aspiring candidates. We have given below a list of frequently asked questions and their answers.
What are the posts available under this recruitment project?
The recruitment will be done only for the SBI Clerk.
When will be the exam conducted?
Recruitment Examination will be conducted online tentatively in July/August 2014 on various dates.
When will the result be declared?
No Tentative Date for the results is announced in the Notification.
How many vacancies will be there?
The total number of vacancies available is 5092.
Will there be a common interview after the written result?
Yes, a common interview will take place after the written result.
Will the exam conducted online or offline (OMR Based)?
The exam will be conducted online for the first time.
What is the age criteria to apply in this common written exam?
Age: (As on 01.05.2014)
Minimum Age : 20 years
Maximum Age : 28 years (as on 01.05.2014).
Candidates born between 02.05.1986 and 01.05.1994 (both days inclusive) are only eligible to apply.
What is the relaxation given to the different categories?
- SC/ST – 5 years
- OBC – 3 years
- PWD (Gen) – 10 years
- PWD (SC/ST) – 10 years
- PWD (OBC) – 13 years
- Persons domiciled in Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir State during the period from 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989 – 5 years Widows, Divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands & who are not remarried 38 years – 9 years
What is the educational qualification required for various posts in this recruitment process?
A Degree (Graduation level) from a recognized university, or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central/State Government.
I have scored 55% in Graduation. Am I eligible to sit for the exam?
Yes, you can apply as there is no percentage criterion. You just need to be a graduate.
I am 19 years old. Can I sit for the exam?
No. You have to wait another year in order to appear for the exam. You must be at least 20 years of age and not more than 28 years of age as on as on 01.05.2014.
I have given exams of my final year graduation but result has not yet been declared. Can I apply?
No. You can not apply. If the result is out on or before 1-July-2013, only then you can apply. Those who are in the final year of Graduation/Semester may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if called for interview, they will have to produce proof of having passed the Graduation Examination on or before 31.08.2014.
What is the application Fee?
1. SC/ST/PWD/XS - Rs. 100
2. General and OBC - Rs. 450
When will the registration start?
Registration started from 26-05-2014 and it will get over on 14-06-2014.
As clearly stated in the notification, Knowledge of local language will be an added qualification.
Can I apply from two circles?
No, you cannot apply from two circles. Candidates can apply for vacancies in one state only and will have to appear for the test from an examination centre for that particular state. Candidates can appear for the test only once under this recruitment project.
Can I apply from some other circle?
Yes, you may apply from some other circle. But, as clearly stated in the notification “Knowledge of local language will be an added qualification”. So, technically, you can fill it but practically, you can be rejected.
I am from Bihar. I want to apply from UP. Can I apply?
Yes, you may apply. As the local language of UP is Hindi and if you are comfortably at home with Hindi, then yes, you can absolutely apply.
I am from Kerala. But I want to apply from Gujarat. Can I apply?
If you know Gujarati, then yes you may. Otherwise, you can’t because there may be a risk of getting rejected in the Interview. Sometimes, during the interview, the interviewer can ask you to read or write in the local language.
When can I get an inter/intra state transfer?
Candidates will not be entitled for inter/intra-state transfer in the first 5 years of service. (8 years for Kashmir valley/Ladakh).
What will be the exam center of the exam?
Candidates can apply for vacancies in one state only and will have to appear for the test from an examination centre for that particular state.
I am from engineering background. What option should I chose?
Choose Science. Engineering is an extension of science.
I am from Animation/Fashion background. What option should I chose?
You should choose “others”.
What is the language used in the exam? What is the meaning of “bilingual”?
The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English, will be bilingual i.e., English & Hindi.
On what basis the Merit List will be drawn?
Merit list will be drawn State-wise, Category-wise and candidates will be posted in the State for which they are applying.
What is the cut-off for being recruited?
There is no fixed cutoff for SBI clerk exam. It depends on the performance of the candidates each year. Your final score is calculated based on your performance in the written test and the interview.
Is there a sectional cut-off in the exam?
Yes, there is a sectional cut-off in the exam. You have to clear every section in order to secure a seat for the Interview.
I have cleared the overall cutoff of the exam. However, I could not clear the cutoff for the general knowledge section. Am I still eligible?
Unfortunately, you are not eligible to move to the interview stage. You must clear the cutoff for each section and the overall cutoff as well.
How can I apply for SBI clerk exam?
You have to apply online for the exam through SBI’s official website. Note down the details of the application process once the notification of the exam is out. You can pay online or offline.
What the pattern of SBI Clerk Exam?
SBI Clerk Exam is an objective test with multiple choice questions. The paper has five sections to it, viz. General Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, and Marketing Aptitude. The paper has 200 questions in all, each carrying one mark.
Is there a criterion for negative marking?
There is negative marking of ¼ marks for every wrong answer.
